Resolving Menopause Rage
Menopause rage is one of the less discussed yet more problematic symptoms of menopause. It is hard to manage at work and in society when all of a sudden you find yourself without a filter. Uncontrollable bursts of rage can result in insult, hurt or anger the people around you. Society tends to frown upon this. And justifiably so.
There are both quick fixes to help immediately to calm you if you feel the rage upon you, as well as lifestyle changes which can prevent it from happening.
Let’s start with the quickest fix of all. Aromatherapy.
Aromatherapy works magic and it does so within seconds. Within moments of smelling or applying an essential oil or a blend, the smell hits the brain and changes the way you are feeling and behaving. If you know you are prone to rage, I suggest either carrying a single oil, or a blend with you at all times.
Here are a few recommendations of oils that can help calm you down when you feel the urge to let it all out,
-
Geranium is one of my go to oils. It cools down the liver which is where the rage originates.
-
Clary Sage balances the hormones and lowers your cortisol. Lower cortisol makes you calmer and less likely to say things you will regret.
-
Patchouli is a relaxant. It calms you down. It is also an antidepressant and an appetite suppressant.
-
Mint cools you down. If you're raging because you're hot flashing and want to jump out of your skin then mint is the choice for you.
The oils can be used singly or blended. They can be diluted in a base oil, or if they don’t burn you, you can apply one drop to the tip of your nose. The effect should last for a few hours and they can be used 2-3 times a day.
The lifestyle changes are similar to what helps all of the many menopause symptoms. These include diet, exercise, relaxation techniques and herbs.
Dietary changes are simple to say but difficult to implement. A diet free of sugar, caffeine and alcohol is one of the most important changes you can make. It’s worth giving them up because you will feel so much better when you go without them. DO NOT switch to using artificial sweeteners because these are even more harmful than the sugar.
Remove phthalates from your home and body. Phthalates are in so many of our daily products, from dish soap to nail polish. And they are so harmful to us. They are also not always recognizable as something toxic. Phthalates can appear on labels as fragrance or parfum, nothing that screams toxic. What is more innocuous than fragrance? But anything that contains chemically reproduced scents are hormone disruptors. Messed up hormones in menopause can cause The Rage or any of the other symptoms.
Walking and yoga are two beneficial ways to release anger. Walking calms down the liver and yoga twists release stagnant energy and allows in new calm energy.
Starting and ending your day with daily meditation enables you to release stored up negative emotions. Releasing these emotions on your own schedule can prevent them from spurting out of you at unscheduled, inconvenient moments.
Tapping is a great way to calm down easily and quickly. The easiest is to find some videos which can demonstrate anger releasing tapping points.
Herbs are a powerful tool to create long lasting significant changes to our health. It is not something best done alone. I suggest going to a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine and getting an herbal formula that will balance you and support your hormonal health.
